Workshop on Multi-Drug Resistance Tuberculosis in Pakistan
25 Feb 2009
On January 26-30, 2009, the forty Pakistani medical professionals and administrators received training to help combat multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) at a workshop funded by BEP in Istanbul, Turkey. This practical workshop on a major public health issue in Pakistan was developed by Partners in Health (PIH), a Boston, Massachusetts-based nonprofit health care organization dedicated to providing a "preferential option for the poor".
Participants included Pakistani MDR-TB managers, project managers and relevant medical experts. Ten seminar leaders and presenters affiliated with PIH—four of whom were from Pakistan—also participated. This successful event provided a rare opportunity for experience sharing between medical professionals from the United States, Russia and Pakistan as well among representatives of major Pakistani medical facilities.
